I was so happy to think the other day how many wonderful people I have met since January 3rd 2006. January 3rd 2006 was the day that I started running. This after having a few beers with Don Baun one evening and him talking me into a run... well a marathon.
Through that first year I went from a marathon to a 100 mile race. Wow! Loved it! Since then... I have had so many life changes. From every day all American guy to a fat, blubbering gut, bald, sweat like a pig worthless son of a bitch. Yup! I have spent too much time at the aid station!
You know I realized that life is not fair sometimes and you cant get things how you want it or control your destiny.. it just happens. So my Mother took time to remind me how my life has gone since June 2009. back surgery with nerve damage that will not go away, blood clots in left leg and both lungs, blah blah blah.
So I could sit here looking at my 100 mile career and classify it as a failure. The truth be told I have only finished 3 of my 8 100 mile attempts. Wow! 3 of 8. 38% success rate! That does suck and makes me a cant finish a 100 miler type guy? Or does it?
They say in the respectful Ultra Running World that once a 100 miler always a 100 miler. I even finished one of them in 2010. 100 miles 10 months after back surgery and 8 months after blood clots! Wow! You know, I realized that there just is no body else out there in the ultra running community who has done that!
So I thought! I have spent too much time at the aid station and it is time to get moving! After coming back from Leadville this past week where I took Michelle out for her birthday and a wedding of my buddy. I thought how much I have over complicated life.
Cant change the past only try to be stronger and a better man each day than yesterday. So... say your sorry where possible.
So what is next? An Epic Adventure to clear the mind!
- Well, I will be starting a new blog. This one will have only my race information on it and I will go back through this and pull my race reports out and transfer it to the new blog. No training runs, vacations nothing etc. Just races. I will pull a Mike Keller and print this blog as a book and close it down for ever. But I will post my new blog. Time to leave the aid station and get out of the past miles.
- Mohican 100 next year will finally be my buckle. Then Leadville 100 start line. My goals 2012
- Shall we say minimalistic life. I will bump into you all as chance will have it on the trails but will be focused for these two races the next 12 months. I will see you with out my blubbering gut but will still be a bald man. LOL
See ya on the trails!
Run on! On and On!
